It’s my last day in Vancouver, and I’m methodically working my way through final to-dos: uploading ALL my music (and a fair amount of my mother’s) onto the still-exciting new laptop; visiting one last time with a few of my nearest and dearest friends, rellies, and cats; picking up insect repellent; taking photos of the house, my folks, grandfather, cats, etc. because cursèd UPS won’t be delivering my boxes (with my usual supply of pics) until after I leave; and, eventually, packing. I am sitting at gate D5 at Dulles International Airport, exploring my new MacBook’s WiFi capabilities. Pretty groovy. Today appears, as they say, to be the first day of the rest of my life. Yesterday I sent 19 boxes of life off with UPS, and today 3 suitcases, a backpack, a very stressed little cat, and I are wending our way west to Vancouver, where I’ll eat sushi, walk on the beach, and be as unproductive as I possibly can before my departure for Ghana via Toronto and London. Yesterday was a long day of packing and cleaning, followed by only 2 hours or so of sleep, so I won’t write much more for fear of spewing gobbledygook. But I figure if I really am starting a blog, 3 minutes before boarding the flight that will end my 34 months of residence in DC (makes me tear up just writing that), is an appropriate moment to do so. See, I’m not sure I would tell you that I feel like crying if I’d slept more. Time to put this away so I can board early and fuss with the cat without annoying people. More anon!
